KUALA LUMPUR – Sacked Bersatu MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has accused the party’s information chief, Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, of spreading 'propaganda' after the latter criticised former deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin on social media.
Tun Faisal’s post drew attention to a statement by Hamzah in which he described Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as his 'No.1 enemy', while noting that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was not labelled as such.
An AI-generated image shared by Tun Faisal also featured Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Umno president) shaking hands with Anwar, implying that political alliances may explain Hamzah’s selective rhetoric.
Responding on Facebook, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said Tun Faisal’s post was 'ridiculous propaganda'.
"Oh dear, your propaganda is ridiculous. We are all opposing Anwar in parliament. Tan Sri (Muhyiddin Yassin), Azmin (Datuk Seri Azmin Ali), Peja (Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu) and Hilman (Muhammad Hilman Idham) are like sticks. Trying to create a perception, but the facts are completely wrong," the Machang MP responded.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal’s comment rejected the suggestion that Hamzah’s statements reflect political inconsistency, emphasising that Bersatu lawmakers were united in opposing Anwar in parliament.
The exchange comes amid widening turmoil within Bersatu.
Earlier this year, Bersatu’s disciplinary board expelled Hamzah along with three other lawmakers, including Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, amid a power struggle within the party.
The rift has since seen dissenting leaders pledge support to other political formations, with 18 MPs aligned with Hamzah reported to have pledged loyalty to PAS and its vice-president as part of a factional realignment.
Recent disciplinary moves have also included show‑cause letters issued to Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee and Women’s wing chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, linked to their support for Hamzah.
In addition, Hamzah has indicated that he may lead Parti Keluarga Malaysia, which is currently awaiting the appeal results from the Registrar of Societies, as he continues in his role as Leader of the Opposition.
It was also reported that political analysts say the episode highlights the deepening fractures within Bersatu and underscores the challenges the party faces in maintaining cohesion ahead of parliamentary sessions and the next general elections. - March 8, 2026
