THE House prosecution team has new evidence involving properties not in Vice President Sara Duterte's statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs) for 2007 to 2024, Bicol Saro Rep. Terry Ridon said Saturday.
Ridon, one of the prosecutors, said in Filipino and English that the vice president and her husband had properties on a property list that "were not listed on her SALN submissions.”
"So from 2007 to 2025, these properties were not listed," he said.
He said that this was in the pre-trial brief, "so it will be disclosed with particularity in the coming week."
The House of Representatives' impeachment prosecutors are preparing for the pre-trial conference for the impeachment trial.
The meeting was set by the Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, for Monday.
A pre-trial conference is where parties can, among others, agree on facts, simplify issues, mark evidence, and finalize who the witnesses they will present are.
"Now, we are at the stage wherein by Monday, we are due to submit our pre-trial brief and, on June 18, the pre-trial conference will be held,” Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua, one of the prosecutors, said in the Saturday News Forum.
He said that in the conference, they will have a stipulation of facts and marking of evidence.
He said it "is also where we will say who our witnesses will be."
"This is done to prevent surprises during the trial proper,” Chua said.
Chua also said it would be unfair to allow absent senators to vote during the impeachment trial, which begins on July 6.
Chua, who also chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, said allowing an absent senator-judge to vote would be similar to a court judge handing out a ruling without even appearing during the trial itself.
The House, voting 257-25 with nine abstentions, impeached Duterte on May 11, 2026, over alleged misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth allegedly amassed, alleged bribery, and for saying she had contracted someone to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. if she was killed.
The House sent the impeachment articles to the Senate for trial on May 13.
Duterte denied the allegations in the two impeachment complaints heard by the House Committee on Justice, but she did not attend any of its hearings.
On Saturday, concerned citizens and various groups launched Bantay Impeachment, aiming to promote transparency and public participation in the proceedings related to the impeachment of the vice president.
"As the impeachment trial unfolds, we will watch closely... and help ensure that truth and justice prevail. Public vigilance is indispensable," the network said.
Over 120 representatives of groups including civil society organizations, people's organizations, church groups, and youth formations gathered to launch Bantay Impeachment at Claret School in UP Village, Quezon City. WITH PNA
