Rio de Janeiro’s mayor has publicly backed Jorginho after the footballer’s accusation against singer Chappell Roan, escalating the controversy into a wider political and cultural dispute.

The situation stems from an incident in Sao Paulo where Jorginho claimed his 11-year-old daughter was left in tears following an encounter involving Roan’s security team.

That claim has now drawn an official response, taking the story beyond sport and into entertainment.

Eduardo Cavaliere backs Jorginho in Chappell Roan controversy

Rio mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, responded publicly after Jorginho’s accusations against Chappell Roan gained traction, making his position clear.

“I mean that as long as I’m in charge of our city, this young lady Chappell Roan will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio! I doubt that Shakira would do that!” Cavaliere wrote on X.

The reaction follows reports that Jorginho, a Brazil-born Italy international and former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder, criticised how his daughter was treated during a hotel encounter in Sao Paulo.

The controversy has quickly escalated, with Roan, a rising US pop star known for her bold stage persona, facing backlash despite not publicly responding to the claims.

The mayor’s response went further than criticism, extending direct support to Jorginho’s family in the aftermath of the incident.

“By the way, Jorginho, your little one is already the guest of honor from the organization in May!” Cavaliere added.

That invitation ties into the Todo Mundo no Rio event, a major concert series in the city, where Roan has now reportedly been barred from performing.

The move highlights how quickly the situation has shifted from a personal complaint to a public stance backed by city leadership.

With no official response yet from Roan or her representatives, the story remains one-sided but continues to gather momentum across both sport and entertainment circles.
