The World Cup has brought about all kinds of storylines, but the one amusing the British public the most is about a cat called Bob.
BBC co-commentator and former Liverpool player Danny Murphy went viral after telling a story about how his childhood cat went missing during Norway’s game against the Ivory Coast.
The story started when Oscar Bobb was introduced as a substitute for Norway, prompting Murphy to say: Murphy, 49, started out by saying: “We used to have a cat called Bob.”
Steve Bower then replied: “The game’s not that bad,” before Murphy continued: “He jumped in the back of a Royal Mail van and they lost him.

Many thought that would be the last we would hear about Bob but Murphy and Bower were at it again midway through Spain’s game against Austria.
During a pause in the game, Bower said: Our phones haven’t stopped since the last commentary when you told us the story about your cat Bob.”
Murphy admitted he was surprised by the reaction of social media before revealing that he didn’t die and that he returned, only to find settling in again difficult.
“He didn’t actually die, we got him back about six or seven weeks later,” Murphy exclaimed.
“Unfortunately he’d gone feral and we couldn’t reintegrate him into the home. He ended up living with my friend’s parents in Preston and that was the life he had.”
Before thanking everyone for their concern, Murphy did reveal that Bob had sadly passed away many years ago.
To pay tribute, Bower then said: RIP Bob. He has seemingly become a national treasure this week.”
