RM1,000 special aid for 1,105 Sabah transport drivers

Kota Kinabalu: A total of 1,105 taxi, rental car and school bus drivers across Sabah are eligible to receive a one-off RM1,000 special financial assistance from the Government to help ease operating costs.

Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe said the state-level payout is part of a nationwide initiative benefiting roughly 53,000 public transport operators.

A symbolic handover ceremony on Friday saw 160 drivers receive the aid, with the remaining recipients scheduled to obtain theirs via direct bank transfers and vouchers to spare them travelling to the state capital.

Funded by RM91.2 million raised from the bidding of special H-series vehicle registration numbers, the disbursement was brought forward from its original Budget 2027 schedule to begin on Oct 14.

Phoong said qualifying taxi and rental car operators must possess valid driver cards and active vehicle permits, while school bus drivers must hold active PSV licences under licensed operators.
