SERI KEMBANGAN: Police arrested three men and seized untaxed cigarettes worth RM1.28 million in unpaid customs duties during a raid yesterday.

The operation targeted a house in Taman Sri Serdang under the police’s Op Taring Alpha 1 initiative.

Authorities confiscated 5,111 cartons of various cigarette brands from throughout the property. The cigarettes were found in the living room, bedrooms and storage areas.

The three suspects, aged between 34 and 43, include a supervisor and two workers. They have been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Division of the Serdang Police Headquarters.

Wildlife Crime Bureau commander Datuk Mohd Zaki Ashar said the operation successfully crippled a syndicate’s activities. “The operation has successfully crippled the syndicate involved in the storage, distribution and sale of uncustomed cigarettes around the Klang Valley and abroad,” he stated in a press release today.

The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
