The Youth and Sports Ministry allocates RM1 million for the 2026 Sepak Takraw World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, with an additional RM2 million for the sport’s academy complex.

MINISTRY of Youth and Sports has allocated RM1 million to organise the 2026 Sepak Takraw World Cup through its Sports Matching Grant programme.

Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the funds provided to the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Federation (PSM) should be used effectively to ensure the event’s success and elevate the sport’s status.

“Insya-Allah, as hosts, we will once again revive sepak takraw at the grassroots level and elevate it to the international stage,” he told reporters after the opening of the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Academy Complex.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who officiated the event, separately announced an RM2 million allocation to strengthen the management of the new academy complex.

The RM6 million complex on Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz in Kampung Baru includes athlete accommodation, a gymnasium, classrooms and training courts.

Mohammed Taufiq also revealed that the Malaysian National Cycling Federation received RM825,000 from the same grant to organise the 2026 Track Cycling World Cup in Nilai next week.

The KBS GPS provides matching grants on a reimbursement basis to assist associations and NGOs in organising sports programmes.
