PAPAR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has allocated RM100,000 to improve educational facilities and learning environment at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Benoni, which the ministry adopt the school under the 2026 Madani Adopted School Programme.
Its Minister, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, said the allocation would be used to upgrade the Home Science Workshop and Clothing Design and Sewing Workshop, repair the additional Surau roof and purchase assets to improve teaching and learning facilities.
However, he said priority would be given to upgrading the Clothing Design and Sewing Workshop as SMK Benoni is the only school in Sabah offering the subject.
For 2026, he said the Federal Government allocated RM50 million for the implementation of the MADANI Adopted School Programme, with RM100,000 allocated to each ministry to carry out programmes and projects at selected schools.
“This demonstrates KPDN’s commitment to ensuring that the MADANI Adopted School Programme is not merely about providing physical facilities, but also adding value to students’ education and skills development.
“In Shaa ALLAH (God Willing) through these improvements, we hope students will enjoy a better learning environment and develop skills in areas that interest them,” he said.
Armizan who is also Papar MP said this when launching the KPDN Madani Adopted School Programme 2026 at SMK Benoni here on Friday.
He also witnessed handing over contributions of some KPDN agencies and a private company as their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to assist the school development needs.
Also present were Pantai Manis assemblyman Datuk Pengiran Saifuddin Pengiran Tahir Petra, Papar district officer Muhammad bin Mohd Ali and SMK Benoni principal Iqbal Khan Ismail.
Armizan said the Madani Adopted School Programme was introduced in 2025 as an initiative to strengthen education comprehensively through cooperation between ministries, government agencies, the private sector and the community.
He said the programme focused on social development, empowering the school community, as well as students’ character and skills development.
Apart from KPDN’s allocation, he said the SMK Benoni also received corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions from KPDN agencies and private companies.
Armizan said the contributions including RM550,000 given by a company would be used to build an open hall for the schools as well as classroom equipment and teaching aids, support for academic excellence and character building development programmes, and rendering financial assistance for asnaf, underprivileged and orphaned students.
He said the implementation of the Madani Adopted School Programme at SMK Benoni is expected not only to improve school facilities but also empower the school community and enhance students’ achievements and skills in various areas.
He said KPDN had previously implemented a similar programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tikam Batu in Sungai Petani, Kedah, last year.
