LABUAN: An individual lost RM12,400 after falling victim to a bogus generator set supply project offered by someone posing as a Labuan Water Department employee.
Labuan Police Headquarters said the victim received the offer through a telephone call.
Police said the suspect allegedly provided a local purchase order (LPO) and details of a company purportedly supplying the generator set.
The victim transferred the money to a bank account provided by the suspect before discovering the scam after checking with the Water Department, which confirmed that no such tender or project existed.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, while police advised the public to verify such offers with the relevant authorities before making any financial transactions.
