Kota Kinabalu: Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced on Saturday a RM2.4 million allocation to address the critical water supply issues in Sepanggar.
This funding is part of a larger RM140 million allocation for Sabah in 2024 under the Ministry’s Rural Water Supply Programme (BALB).
Speaking at a press conference following the Sepanggar Umno division meeting, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, emphasised the need for coordination between State and Federal efforts.
“We provided an allocation of RM2.4 million last month to repair pipelines in rural areas and I will continue to increase that allocation,” he said.

The Deputy Prime Minister called for increased cooperation between State and Federal to ensure effective implementation of water supply projects.
“We will coordinate that cooperation. The State Government has been given an allocation by the Federal government to repair and replace water supply pipes,” Ahmad Zahid said.
He also said that Sepanggar Division Chief, Datuk Yakub Khan, had personally met with him, resulting in approved requests for the area. The announcement comes in the wake of recent peaceful protest by university students outside Menara Kinabalu.
In PAPAR, Zahid reminded leaders and members not to negotiate when the party is in a weak state.
He said the focus is to strengthen the party’s internal affairs before thinking about who to partner with.
“Don’t negotiate when we are weak. On the contrary, we negotiate when we have strength. Build strength first, then we negotiate.
“This is because our main focus is strengthening the party internally. God willing, those who negotiate with us will definitely be with us,” he said, when opening the Umno Sabah Kimanis division delegates conference at the SMK Bongawan hall, Sunday.
