ON October 2, Daily Express (Page 5) carried an article whereby a man was fined RM20,000 or one month’s jail for beating his sister’s pet dog to death! This is not an apt punishment for such a cruel act. Can you imagine what the poor pet had to endure; the pain etc and being beaten non-stop with an iron rod!The man claims the reason is that the dog had bitten him. Whether this is true or not we will never find out. And even if it were true there must have been a good reason for the dog to want to bite as dogs have an instinct about a person’s true nature.
Dogs can sense whether a person has good or bad intentions and obviously this man must have somehow made this dog feel defensive and uncomfortable as dogs generally do not attack unless they feel threatened.
The punishment this man received for beating a dog to death is nothing compared to the pain the poor dog had to endure before succumbing to its injuries.
The culprit was only fined RM20,000. Having no fixed income and having to support his parents is no excuse whatsoever for beating an animal or any other living thing to death. If he can do this to a dog he will eventually move on to human beings.
He claims he was bitten by the dog but what proof does he have? As written above, a dog can sense intentions whether good or bad. This man must have hurt the dog before if it wanted to bite the man.
The dog must have been quite severely frightened to react by wanting to bite the man.
As such, a sentence of RM20,000 fine or one-month jail sentence is nothing.
He should be met with a jail sentence as a deterrent and for public’s interest, that there will be heavy consequences for acts of cruelty on voiceless animals like the pet dog he so mercilessly killed.
