RM240,000 Syabu seized in Tawau

TAWAU: A suspected drug dealer with 15 previous criminal records was arrested and more than four kilograms Syabu worth RM240,000 seized at a residential area in​​ Mile 3 Jalan Apas at 5.55pm, last Thursday.​​​​​​

​Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect, 31, was arrested by a team from the Sabah Police Contingent Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJN) and Tawau IPD BSJN, after a struggle when he tried to escape.

Jasmin said the local man from outside the district was seen carrying a black plastic package when arrested.

“Four green plastic packages with the word ‘Guanyinwang’ was written on them, each containing suspected drug crystals with an estimated weight of 4,033.87gm worth RM240,000 inside,” he told a press conference at IPD Tawau, Sunday.

Jasmin said a check on the suspect’s records found he had 15 various offences, including vehicle theft, drug possession, lying and drug addiction. He had also been convicted in court.

He also tested positive for ketamine and methamphetamine.

“The suspect was remanded for seven days under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

The drug was meant for the local market and it is still being investigated whether there is a network of suspects.

Jasmin said with this latest case, his party recorded a total seizure of 5.5kg of drugs and two cases under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as of January.

Jasmin said police would continue to aggressively combat drugs in the district.

He welcomed the cooperation of the public in channeling information and tipoffs related to crime and drugs to jointly make Tawau peaceful and prosperous.
