The family of G Vijaya Lakshmi, an Indian national who perished in the Masjid India sinkhole incident, received RM30,000 from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) before their return to India on September 1.

According to Astro Awani, Kuala Lumpur Mayor, Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif, clarified that this financial aid is not compensation but a goodwill gesture from DBKL, provided a day after the search and rescue operation was officially concluded.

The incident had shaken the city, and DBKL’s gesture aims to support the grieving family.

Last week, the SAR was officially called off last week after nine days of efforts yielded no results. Despite extensive attempts, authorities were unable to recover her.

The Cabinet decided to discuss compensation for G Vijaya Lakshmi’s family after she tragically fell into a sinkhole in Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur.
