RM50.9 million allocation to maintain power rates

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government has allocated RM50.9 million to maintain the exemption of the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) surcharge from Jan 1 to June 30 next year, announced Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said the exemption applies to domestic consumers with electricity consumption of 1,500 kilowatt-hour (kWh) or less; or a monthly bill of approximately RM677.

AdvertisementNon-domestic consumers in the low-voltage tariff category CM1 and ID1, which includes Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises will also be eligible.

“The Sabah Cabinet made the decision earlier this month. The subsidy to Sabah Electricity and public licence holders would benefit 693,834 consumers or 99 per cent of total consumers in Sabah.

The surcharge rate will remain at 4.06 sen/kWh for domestic consumers with consumption exceeding 1,500 kWh, and for non-domestic consumers with medium or large voltage requirements, as well as public street lighting.
