
RANAU: A 66-year-old man was fined RM6,500, in default eight months’ imprisonment, by the Magistrate’s Court here after pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention, resulting in a road accident.
Damlee Jainudin admitted to the charge before the court after it was read to him.
He was charged under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM10,000, or imprisonment for up to 12 months, upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, the offence occurred at about 8.48pm on March 22, 2026, at Kilometre 58 of Jalan Ranau–Telupid, Ranau.
Investigations found that Damlee was driving an Isuzu D-Max from Kota Kinabalu towards Lahad Datu when he lost control of his vehicle and veered into the opposite lane.
His vehicle collided with a Toyota Hilux Vigo travelling in the opposite direction.
The impact caused the Hilux to be forced off the road and down an embankment.
The driver of the Hilux sustained minor injuries, while his wife suffered a broken back bone and fractured right leg in the accident.
The Hilux was extensively damaged, with damage reported to the roof, doors, bonnet, front and rear lights, mirrors and other vehicle components.
Police investigations concluded that Damlee had driven without exercising proper care and attention towards other road users, constituting an offence under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The court imposed a RM6,500 fine, with eight months’ imprisonment in default of payment.
