JOHOR BAHRU: Police seized 23,000 litres of diesel and five lorries worth an estimated RM949,160 in total during Op Taring Landai in Taman Kota Puteri, Masai, yesterday.
Marine Police Force Region Two commander ACP Noor Azman Jamal said the operation, conducted at about 11.45 am, was carried out by the Johor Marine Intelligence Unit after receiving information from the public about the alleged misuse of subsidised diesel.
He said an initial inspection of two lorries on Jalan Penaga found diesel stored in rectangular tanks at the rear of the vehicles.
“Initial questioning of a local man then led the team to three more lorries parked by the roadside near the premises,” he said in a statement today.
Noor Azman said the 50-year-old man, believed to be acting as a distributor, was detained to have his statement recorded, adding that investigations found the operation had allegedly been running for about two months.
He said the five seized lorries comprised two Isuzu, two Hino and one Mitsubishi Fuso, along with 24 rectangular tanks, two electric pumps and hoses.
The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, while the suspect and all seized items were handed over to the Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) for further action.
