Finding a room for rent in Kuala Lumpur can already be stressful, especially with rising rental prices in the city.
But one listing recently left Malaysians both amused and concerned after a room in Bukit Bintang was allegedly advertised for RM950 per month, despite its photo making it look like it was once a bathroom.

The listing, which was shared online, showed a “Room For Rent” located in Bukit Bintang.
In the photo, a mattress could be seen placed inside a tiled room, with bathroom-like features such as a sink, mirror and what appeared to be a bathtub-like fixture underneath it.
The screenshot was later shared on Threads by a user who said she came across it while searching for a room to rent.
“While looking for a room to rent, I came across this. How could someone turn a toilet into a room to rent out?” she wrote.
Listing says one more bed can be added
A check by WeirdKaya found that the space was described as a “medium room”, with the description stating: “Can add one more bed. If you are 2 people”
The listing also stated that the property type was ‘houses’, while the room was listed as partially furnished.
It also showed a rental deposit of RM1,000, with tenant preferences listed as male, female, and couple.
The listing further included facilities such as parking, security, lift, swimming pool, playground, gymnasium, clubhouse, jogging track and squash court.
Amenities listed included air-conditioning, washing machine, cooking allowed, internet and being near KTM/LRT.
However, it is unclear whether these facilities referred to the entire property or the rented room itself.
Netizens joke about ‘all-in package’
The unusual listing quickly drew reactions from Malaysians, with many joking about the room’s bathroom-like appearance.
One netizen joked: ‘There’s a bathtub under the mattress. All-in package. No need to fight with others.’
Another compared the setup to small living spaces overseas, such as Hong Kong’s notorious “coffin rooms”.
Another netizen sarcastically commented: ‘Master bedroom with window and view, they say.’
