The Royal Malaysian Air Force begins cloud seeding over three states to replenish seven dams at warning levels amid prolonged dry weather.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Air Force has initiated cloud seeding operations to address critically low water levels at dams in three states.
The operations, coordinated with the Malaysian Meteorological Department and the National Disaster Management Agency, will run in stages until Sunday.
A successful first mission was conducted over Johor today using a C-130H aircraft from the Subang Air Base. The operation targeted the Upper Layang, Pulai 1 and Machap dams between noon and 3 pm.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed the schedule yesterday in his capacity as chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee. Operations at the three Johor dams will continue tomorrow and on Sunday.
Further cloud seeding is scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Kedah and Perak. The Pedu, Muda and Ahning dams in Kedah, along with the Bukit Merah dam in Perak, will be the focus.
The RMAF stated the effort highlights its commitment to Military Operations Other Than War. It underscores the armed forces’ supporting role in disaster management and public well-being operations.
The urgent measures are a response to prolonged hot and dry weather that has pushed reservoir levels to warning stages.
