THE two Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) pilots involved in the F/A-18D Hornet crash at Kuantan Air Base last night have been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
According to a source, both men were allowed to leave Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) early this morning.
“The pilot, a Major, sustained a coccyx injury and burns on the back of his left heel,” the source said. “The second crew member, a Captain, suffered only soft tissue injuries to his lower back and thigh.”
Both were taken to the Emergency and Trauma Department at HTAA around 10.00pm following the crash.
The incident occurred at approximately 9.05pm when the aircraft crashed shortly after take-off from the runway at Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport, which houses the Kuantan Air Base.
Footage circulating on social media showed sparks and a flash of explosion as the jet attempted to take off, followed by the pilot and weapon systems officer ejecting from the aircraft. - August 22, 2025
