THE Road Transport Department (JPJ) will implement a driving ban or 'road ban' on goods and heavy vehicles in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations on 14 to 15 and 21 to 22 February.

Road Transport Director-General, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said the move was to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure smooth traffic during the festive season.

According to him, the movement ban is imposed on types of vehicles divided into three categories, namely category 1, a ban at all times on the dates concerned; category 2, a ban starting from 8 am to 8 pm; and category 3, from 6 pm to 6 am.

"Category 1 involves heavy carrier lorries and jacked lorries with a load exceeding 7,500 kilograms (kg), low-loader lorries, pole trailers, platform trailers, logging lorries, heavy wheeled machinery, except tow trucks and tractors used for emergency and rescue operations.

"Vehicles under category 1 include lorries transporting cement, iron, steel, stone, sand, soil, other building materials, tin ore, stone aggregate and other minerals," he said in a statement today.

According to him, category 2 includes container lorries that transport goods unless the lorry involved is from a port or airport that sends goods to industrial areas in the state.

He said, category 2 includes lorries carrying loads of coconuts, latex and empty lorries.

"Category 3 involves construction vehicles, including mobile cranes and cement mixer lorries, but exemptions are given for emergency work,” he added. – February 5, 2026
