SIPITANG: Three issues were highlighted during a visit to the Sindumin/Merapok Immigration Control Post to inspect the condition and operations of the border entry point, an important link between Sabah and Sarawak.
The first was the deteriorated road within the Immigration Control Post area.
The second involved road signboards that are obscured by overgrown trees, rendering them ineffective for road users. This matter falls under the Sipitang District Council or the relevant authorities.
The third was the need to reactivate and fully strengthen all functions of the Sindumin Immigration Control Post, said Assemblyman Yusri Pungut.
He said the roads in the area require continuous maintenance, as they are frequently used by heavy machinery and various vehicles travelling between Sindumin and Sarawak.
“Therefore, the Sindumin Immigration Control Post should be reactivated to provide greater convenience for visitors, particularly those from Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam. This would improve efficiency for all road users and help mitigate congestion issues at the Immigration Security Checkpoint,” he said.
Yusri expressed confidence that the Sarawak Government has approved the implementation of road repair works in the area surrounding the control post and that the project will be carried out in the near future.
He hopes that the relevant authorities will take the necessary action to ensure that the facility is maintained in good condition, remains safe, and is able to provide more comfortable services to the public and visitors using the border route.
Also present during the visit were Immigration Chief Safariy and Haslina, who joined in inspecting the issues at the site.
