PUTRAJAYA, Aug 31 — The roar of fighter jets reverberated across the skies over Putrajaya today as the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) staged a thrilling air display, one of the highlights of the 69th National Day celebration.

Royal Malaysian Air Force chief General Tan Sri Muhamad Norazlan Aris once again took to the cockpit of a Sukhoi Su-30MKM to lead the display, marking the second consecutive year he has personally led the National Day air show.

Four Su-30MKMs, four F/A-18D Hornets and three BAE Hawk 208 fighter jets thundered across the skies, showcasing the nation’s air capabilities and operational readiness.

The 10-minute display began at 9.30 am and featured specially choreographed formations, including the Kite, Diamond, Delta and Victory Combine formations.

The aerial display was further enlivened by commentary from Major Patrick Dinnesh, Major Neny Suhaida Ab Suki and Captain Muhammad Iqbal Nasrudin, who explained the aircraft manoeuvres and formations to spectators.

Fighter aircraft were followed by the appearance of RMAF transport aircraft, including the C-130H Hercules, A400M Atlas and CN235, highlighting the force’s airlift and logistical support capabilities.

The display also featured EC725 and AW139 helicopters operated by the RMAF, flying in formation with assets from the Malaysian Army, Royal Malaysian Navy, Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia and Royal Malaysia Police.

Each aircraft flypast drew cheers from the thousands of spectators gathered at Dataran Putrajaya, with many keeping their eyes fixed on the skies throughout the display.

The thunderous engines and precision formations transformed the airspace above the federal administrative centre into a dramatic spectacle, adding to the festive atmosphere of the National Day celebration.

For spectators, the air display was among the most eagerly anticipated moments of the celebration, combining entertainment with a demonstration of the capabilities of Malaysia’s air assets. — Bernama
