PETALING JAYA: A robber died after being shot by a security guard during an attempted heist at a gold shop in Section 14 here on Saturday morning.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Shamsudin Mamat confirmed the incident, stating the man succumbed to his injuries while en route to the hospital.

“I confirm the incident and the autopsy is being carried out. A media statement will be issued shortly,” he said when contacted.

A police source said the suspect, armed with a sharp object, was seriously injured after being shot during the attempted robbery at about 11 am.

The suspect is believed to have arrived at the shop by motorcycle and entered the premises while it was empty, having just opened for business.

He is then believed to have been involved in a scuffle with one security guard before a second guard fired two shots in his direction.
