
Kota Kinabalu: Four illegal immigrants, including a 10-year-old, suspected of multiple robbery cases in the city were arrested over the weekend.
The male suspects, aged 10, 24, 24 and 28, were apprehended by the Special Investigation Department (D9) of the Sabah Contingent Criminal Investigation Department in raids at Segama Street and Tugu Street, Kampung Air.
With the arrests, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said several robbery cases at tourist hotspots in the city were solved.
“On December 30, 2023, police were informed about the robbery of a Chinese national by two men in Jalan Gaya, here, causing the victim to lose cash and valuables.

Read more “Following that, the Sabah Contingent D9 conducted an investigation and managed to arrest two men at the side of a building in Jalan Labuk, Segama, on Saturday (Jan 13).
“Several items suspected to be stolen were confiscated, including two knives, a screwdriver and a hammer, used by the suspects,” he told reporters.
Jauteh said as a result of intelligence and continuous monitoring, they arrested two more suspects, including the 10-year-old, at 5.20pm at Jalan Tugu, on Sunday.
“Both suspects have an address in Pulau Gaya…All four do not have any valid identification documents.
“The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 20 years and liable to fine and whipping, on conviction,” he said.
Commenting on the community’s concerns following robberies, especially in tourist hotspots, Jauteh said police will continue to carry out crime prevention operations and investigations until all criminals involved are arrested.
“This is to ensure a sense of security among the public, including tourists, against crime.
“Integrated operations are continuously carried out involving officers and members from various units in hotspots, particularly for tourists.
“This includes an Integrated Walkabout approach that aims to reach out to the community while showing the presence of the police to prevent crime.
“We (police) will not compromise and also not hesitate to take strict action,” he stressed.
