
Kota Kinabalu: A 34-year-old man was jailed nine years and ordered to get two strokes of the cane for robbing a senior citizen.
Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus handed the sentence to Mohammad Sobrie Muali, after ruling that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Mohammad was found guilty of robbing Laina Houpin, 61, of RM2,200, a pair of gold earrings and a gold necklace at 7.30pm on April 9, 2021 by the roadside in front of the La Dentista Dental Clinic at Lorong Cyber City, Tanjung Aru, here.
He was convicted under Section 395/34 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction.

The court ordered Mohammad to serve the jail sentence from the date of his second arrest on Dec 4, 2021. Six prosecution and three defence witnesses testified.
