KLANG – The owner of the dog named Rocky and a delivery worker were charged at the Sessions Court here today with committing animal cruelty against the dog.
S. Roghini Devi, 42, and Muhammad Shah Idham Nor Haikal Shaharom, 24, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them separately before Judge Mujib Saroji.
Roghini was accused of pulling the dog while a looped rope was around its neck, causing pain or suffering to the animal.
Meanwhile, Shah was accused of causing pain or suffering to the animal by strangling it with a looped rope.
The offences were allegedly committed in front of a house at Jalan Sama Gagah, Taman Telok Gedung Indah, Port Klang, between 11pm and 11.30pm on July 29.
The charges, framed under Section 29(1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 and punishable under Section 29(1) of the same Act carries a fine of between RM20,000 and RM100,000, imprisonment for up to three years, or both upon conviction.
The duo became the subject of public backlash following a chaotic stray dog-catching operation involving the dog, last month.
