Rohingya man fatally stabbed, woman injured in Nibong Tebal

A ROHINGYA man was killed and a woman injured in a stabbing incident at a house in Taman Belibis, Simpang Ampat, Nibong Tebal, yesterday afternoon, in what police believe may be linked to a domestic dispute.

Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Jay January Siowou said preliminary information pointed towards a household disagreement as the possible cause, although investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact motive.

Based on the initial probe, a 38-year-old suspect believed to be directly involved in the case was detained by members of the public before being handed over to police, along with two other individuals for further investigation.

“Police also seized a knife believed to have been used in the incident. The Forensic Unit conducted examinations at the scene and collected evidence to assist in the investigation,” he said in a statement posted on the Seberang Perai Selatan district police Facebook page.

He said police received an emergency report on the incident at about 3.20pm yesterday, after which officers discovered a 31-year-old foreign man with multiple stab wounds at the scene, where he was pronounced dead.

“A 26-year-old woman who was also present at the location sustained injuries and was sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital (HSJ),” he said, adding that the victim’s body was also taken to the same hospital for post-mortem examination.

Jay January said closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from nearby premises had been obtained and is currently being analysed to assist the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Members of the public with information on the incident have been urged to contact Investigating Officer Assistant Superintendent Mohd Rizal Abd Rashid or report to the nearest police station. - June 1, 2026
