The Congress on Friday extended support to the ongoing agitation by municipal sanitation workers in Rohtak over their pending demands.
A delegation of Congress leaders, led by local MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra, visited the Municipal Corporation office and interacted with the protesting sanitation workers, listening to their grievances and assuring them of the party’s support.
Addressing the protesters, Batra said their demands would be strongly raised in the Vidhan Sabha. He stated that municipal workers play a crucial role in keeping cities clean and functional in all weather conditions, but alleged that the BJP government had consistently neglected them.
“Those who keep the city running are today forced to sit on the roads to demand their basic rights. The government is functioning with an anti-employee mindset and is not serious about issues related to regularisation, salaries and other benefits,” Batra alleged.
The Congress MLA said the party had always fought for the dignity and rights of employees and would continue to do so.
Batra further alleged that the BJP government had disappointed every section of society and claimed that employees, too, had become disillusioned with the government.
On the occasion, Rohtak Congress urban president Kuldeep KD and rural president Balwan Ranga termed the employees’ protest justified and urged the government to resolve the matter immediately.
They said the Congress stood firmly with the employees and warned the government against treating the workers as isolated in their struggle.
