This netizen spotted a group or a romp of otters near a waterway in Johor and thought how cute they sounded travelling together.

Chipping away and even helping their friend out of the water, netizens pointed out that the romp may be an indicator of what’s to come.

“Haip, what are you all looking for?”

Though many theorised that it might point to the destruction of their home due to a large body of water, experts from the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) say that it is worse if otters are not spotted at all.

“The species is an indicator of healthy wetlands and a functioning ecosystem.”

One user commented, “The disappearance of an otter population from an area it once populated is a sign that a water body is no longer healthy, signaling a disrupted ecosystem.

So, is it good that we are able to spot them?

“Otters are very intolerant to dirty or polluted water,” said a user.

“Otters play an important link between wetlands and humans, as they signal the condition of their surroundings.”

See. Where got floods!
