MANILA, Philippines — Former speaker Martin Romualdez was rushed to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City after having a “cardiovascular event,” Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Monday.
Remulla, together with Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., went to the hospital to serve Romualdez's arrest warrant.
“He is here, as according to the doctors he is suffering from a cardiovascular event, his blood pressure is unstable and he is having an anxiety attack,” Remulla told reporters.
“However, we made it clear that like in Sec. Bonoan’s case, we will check every day until he is well enough to be presented to court. In the meantime, there are armed guards outside his door, armed police outside the hospital and in the lobby and he is now considered person deprived of liberty,” Remulla said, referring to former Public Works secretary Manual Bonoan who stayed in hospital after his arrest also for plunder.
