MANILA, Philippines — Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez was jailed at the Quezon City Jail–Male Dormitory late Monday night, nearly a week after the Sandiganbayan ordered his detention in connection with the flood-control P7.4-bullion plunder case.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology confirmed that Romualdez was committed to the facility at about 10:49 p.m. on September 14, in compliance with the Sandiganbayan Third Division’s order.
Romualdez was placed in the jail infirmary with other persons deprived of liberty requiring medical monitoring, taking into account his medical needs and the recommendations presented before the court.
BJMP said the arrangement was made under its policies and the court’s directives to ensure that Romualdez’s medical needs would continue to be attended to.
“All PDL under its custody are treated fairly and humanely, without distinction or privilege based on status or position,” the BJMP said.
