THE wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has said she remains unfazed by claims that she was responsible for the fall of her husband describing the accusations as baseless and detached from the truth.
In an interview with Berita Harian at her Kuala Lumpur residence yesterday, Rosmah said she draws strength from her family and close friends who understand the reality behind what she described as persistent negative narratives directed at her and Najib.
Appearing calm and composed during the special interview, Rosmah expressed sadness over what she described as a lack of compassion shown by certain political figures who publicly celebrated her family’s suffering following Najib’s conviction in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case.
“What is saddening is when there are parties who take joy in the hardship and trials of our family,” she said, referring to social media posts by several politicians after Najib was convicted.
Najib was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment and fined more than RM11 billion following his conviction.
“No matter how much they hate Najib and me, I feel there is no need for anyone to take joy in our hardship,” she said, expressing regret over what she viewed as a moral failing in political conduct.
Reflecting on her current phase of life, Rosmah said she now chooses to focus fully on her family and to leave matters to Allah SWT, in the hope that “justice and truth may prevail in the future”.
She maintained that recent developments surrounding her family were inseparable from political manoeuvring.
“Everyone knows what is happening today is because of politics. As a wife, I always pray for my husband’s well-being and justice,” she said.
Rosmah said her daily routine now centres on caring for her grandchildren and spending time with her family, supported by friends and relatives whom she described as her strongest support system.
“Prayer, Quran recitation… all my practices for God need no elaboration. Surely, as a wife, I am always praying for my husband,” she said.
She also stressed that she has deliberately chosen to distance herself from matters of government administration and public commentary, despite being frequently approached by members of the public seeking her views or advice.
“Many come asking for advice, and so on, but I no longer want to interfere. If I speak, surely some will say I am meddling in matters unrelated to me,” she said, adding that silence was her way of avoiding misunderstanding or slander.
During the same meeting yesterday, Rosmah hosted 25 Permata Pintar students and their families, who raised concerns over the future of the elite education programme.
Permata Pintar is a government initiative under Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia aimed at identifying and nurturing gifted students through specialised education at Kolej PERMATA@Pintar.
Parents present voiced disappointment over what they described as a lack of continuity in the programme, noting that while many students had received offers from leading universities overseas, the absence of scholarships meant their education could stall at the secondary school level.
Rosmah urged the authorities to address the issue seriously and not allow political sentiment to affect the future of young Malaysians.
“The relevant parties should care about this and ensure Malaysian children get the best opportunities to continue their education. Even if they hate me and Najib, do not jeopardise the future of Malaysia’s children,” she said.
Despite the personal strain, Rosmah said she remains determined to project strength for the sake of her husband and family.
“I am sure that is what he wants, I have to be strong for our family. Actually, he is more upset about the false stories circulating now,” she said.
She also revealed Najib’s deepest regret during his incarceration was missing important moments in his grandchildren’s lives.
“He missed many milestones in the family. That is what we regret the most. All the grandchildren love their grandfather and often ask about Najib. We try our best to protect them and share as much as we can,” she said. - December 29, 2025
