- Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced that eligible disabled bus pass holders across England will receive unlimited free 24-hour travel from 1 April next year.
- The £60 million national project will remove existing weekday time restrictions that limit free travel to between 9.30am and 11pm.
- The initiative is funded through existing budgets, with £40 million from the Department for Work and Pensions and £20 million from the Department for Transport.
- Around one million disabled people are set to benefit, helping ease living costs and improving access to employment, education, and healthcare.
- Liberal Democrat MP Tom Gordon praised the reform as a significant victory for the disabled community following a two-year campaign.
