KOTA BHARU, Aug 17 — The Kelantan Heritage Weapons Festival 2026 has been closed today following the death of a member of the Kelantan royal family.

The Sultan of Kelantan’s Media Office announced that all festivals and activities at the event, which was taking place from yesterday until September 5 at Istana Balai Besar here, had been postponed immediately.

“All festivals and activities are postponed immediately. The cooperation of all parties in this matter is greatly appreciated,” the statement said.

The closure follows the death of the aunt of the Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V, Datuk Tengku Salwani Almarhum Sultan Yahya Petra, at 6.10 am this morning at the age of 82.

Confirmation of the death was made through the Sultan of Kelantan’s Office in a statement here today.

“Let us pray together that the deceased’s soul may be blessed by Allah SWT and placed with those who believe and do righteous deeds, and receive His forgiveness and blessings,” the statement said.

Tengku Salwani, who was born on August 26, 1944, is the daughter of Sultan Yahya Petra ibni Almarhum Sultan Ibrahim and the elder sister of the late Sultan Ismail Petra.

The festival, which features various traditional weapons, pitis and Kelantan heritage treasures that are full of historical, artistic and cultural value, runs from 9 am to 10 pm and admission is free.

Among the main attractions is a special exhibition of the Kelantan Sultanate Crown which is displayed to visitors for the first time, in addition to various activities such as songket weaving demonstrations, making kelingkam cloth, traditional performances and a Kelantan Malay Clothing workshop. — Bernama
