Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim delivered a firm message on January 19, 2026, underscoring that acceptance of Bahasa Malaysia as the national language is non-negotiable for those who choose to live and be educated in Malaysia. The reminder was issued during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Parliamentary session, where His Majesty highlighted the central role of language and history in shaping national identity.
In his address, Sultan Ibrahim emphasised that any proposal to recognise or introduce alternative education systems must first align with the National Education Policy. He made it clear that Bahasa Malaysia must be accepted without reservation. According to the King, these elements form the backbone of nation-building and are essential to fostering unity among Malaysians of diverse backgrounds.
His Majesty cautioned that attempts to deviate from the established policy without embracing the national language and shared historical narrative would undermine efforts to strengthen social cohesion. He stressed that the national education system must continue to be reinforced to ensure a common sense of identity and purpose, while safeguarding the country’s long-term future.
The King further indicated that Bahasa Malaysia must remain the primary medium of communication within any education framework recognised by the state. As the national language, it serves not only as a tool for learning but also as a unifying force that binds citizens together. Those unwilling to accept this principle, His Majesty suggested, should reconsider their place in the country, reflecting the seriousness with which the matter is regarded at the highest level.
Beyond education, Sultan Ibrahim also addressed broader concerns relating to public order and national security. He called for stronger and more effective control over the use of technology, particularly in combating scams and other forms of cybercrime that threaten societal stability. His Majesty warned that unchecked technological misuse could erode public trust and disrupt harmony.
The King highlighted that serious crimes, terrorism, and actions touching on sensitive race, religion, and royalty issues—commonly referred to as the 3R matters—must be handled decisively. He urged the government to ensure that laws related to national security and foreign threats are enacted and enforced promptly.
