‘RS-2 to help state SMEs penetrate global supply chains’

SHAH ALAM, Aug 6 - The Second Selangor Plan (RS-2) will emphasise efforts to boost local companies’ capabilities, especially those of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to improve their competitiveness and help them join global supply chain, said state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman.

He said local companies will be aided with various initiatives including the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS), Business Linkages and Acceleration Programme (BLAST), and Selangor Lab Partnership Programme (SLPP).

“This effort involves strengthening ties between local companies and multinational corporations, developing industrial ecosystems, improving technology use, empowering research, development, commercialisation and innovation activity, and improving local workforce skills,” he added.

He said this when responding to Batang Kali assemblyman Muhammad Muhaimin Harith Abdullah Sani’s question about creating high-impact jobs for youth, at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.

Papparaidu, who is also Banting assemblyman, said that under RS-2, the state government must also focus on efforts to strengthen Selangor’s economy by developing high-impact sectors, especially in the hi-tech and advanced manufacturing fields.

He added that this approach aims to attract more quality investments that could produce high-skill jobs, expedite technology transfer, develop local talent and strengthen the state’s industrial ecosystem.

“Based on this approach, RS-2 aims to create an economic system that is more inclusive and sustainable so foreign investment growth can present spillover effects to local companies, communities, and the overall industrial value chain in Selangor,” Papparaidu said.
