DOMESTIC carriers have migrated to the MEDIAnS platform to optimize fuel efficiency, monitor emissions, and align local maritime supply chains with national green shipping mandates.
The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) said 12 domestic shipping companies from Zamboanga Peninsula voluntarily adopted the government’s new emissions tracking system during a regional pilot testing and training workshop on July 28 and 29.
The participating shipping companies are ISAJ Sea Transport Corp., Zamboanga Golden Dragon Shipping Corp., Southwest-Pacific Shipping Lines, Southern Islands Devt. OPC, Villa Shipping Lines, Medzar Shipping Lines, Theresian Stars Shipping Lines, Ceri Logistics Inc., Win Industrial Network Shipping Inc., Aleson Shipping Lines, Alkim Inter-Island Water Passenger Transport Service, and Matada Shipping Lines.
Organized by the Marine Environment Protection Development Service (MEPDS) and Marina Regional Office IX (Marina 9), the session trained 27 industry participants on the Maritime Energy Demand Information and Analysis Software (MEDIAnS), covering vessel registration, voyage reporting, real-time fuel data entry, energy analytics, and emissions monitoring.
This rollout signals an industry-wide pivot under the Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP) 2028, where commercial viability is closely tied to decarbonization. Marina 9 Regional Director Farida Cunanan emphasized that modern shipping priorities must expand beyond basic safety to aggressively target energy efficiency, digitalization, and greenhouse gas reduction.
Developed by Marina, the University of the Philippines Diliman, and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCIEERD), MEDIAnS bridges historical data gaps. The platform analyzes energy data directly from active domestic vessels, helping shipowners optimize routes to lower operational expenses while giving regulators the empirical metrics required to craft realistic green shipping policies.
This digital shift protects operators’ bottom lines through targeted fuel analytics and provides the emissions transparency needed to satisfy corporate demands for greener logistics supply chains. Following the Zamboanga activation, 51 domestic shipping lines nationwide have now committed to integrating the MEDIAnS platform into their daily fleet operations.
