The designated NDPS Court and competent authority in New Delhi has issued orders for freezing properties worth around Rs 39.50 lakh belonging to two habitual drug peddlers at Dehra in Kangra district. The police displayed notices on the immovable properties of the accused identified as Sharif Deen, a resident of Valahar village in Khudian tehsil, and Vikram Singh, a resident of Muhi village in Rakkar tehsil of Dehra. The police conducted financial investigations into the affairs of both accused, who had been arrested repeatedly in drug peddling cases, and unearthed substantial assets allegedly acquired through the proceeds of drug trafficking.
Dehra SP Mayank Chaudhary said that after obtaining the freezing orders under Section 68F (2) of the NDPS Act-1985, the police froze Sharif Deen’s house worth Rs 14 lakh at his native village. He added that Deen had been involved in four drug cases involving the recovery of charas (hashish) and two FIRs each had been registered at the Khudian and Jwalamukhi police stations.
The SP said that the police had earlier frozen property worth Rs 25.38 lakh belonging to Vikram Singh at Muhi village. He added that the district police had intensified its anti-drug campaign, particularly targeting habitual drug traffickers and interstate narcotics networks. In both cases, properties worth Rs 39.48 lakh had been frozen after obtaining orders from the designated NDPS Court in New Delhi.
The SP said that extended detention under the PIT-NDPS Act and the confiscation of assets under Section 68F (2) of the NDPS Act were key measures to break the financial backbone of habitual drug traffickers and curb interstate narcotics operations. The latest action is being seen as a strong message to drug peddlers operating in the region and reflects the determination of the authorities concerned to dismantle drug networks and check the growing narcotics trafficking.
