SEREMBAN: The Rumah Bangsa initiative by Umno is specifically for former members who wish to rejoin the party willingly, according to its deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
He stated that Umno’s strength lies in its grassroots operating collectively rather than as individuals.
Mohamad explained that while Umno and its Barisan Nasional partners cooperate with Pakatan Harapan to manage the country, this does not involve merging their political agendas.
“Our coalition remains with MCA, MIC and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah,” he told reporters after presenting Ramadan aid in Mambau.
He added that anyone taking up the Rumah Bangsa offer must do so willingly to continue the struggle on Umno’s platform.
Mohamad was responding to claims by some former members who rejected the initiative as being within the MADANI Government framework.
He clarified that former members wishing to rejoin must apply formally by submitting a letter to the party’s secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
The application will then be referred carefully to the respective divisions and state chapters for initial review.
If there are no objections from the division and state levels, the application proceeds to the management committee for discussion.
Final authority to readmit members rests with the party’s Supreme Council, which will make the ultimate decision.
Last Friday, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party had opened its doors widely to former members who had been expelled or suspended.
Zahid also recalled the 1996 event when Parti Melayu Semangat 46 was dissolved and all its members were accepted back into Umno en bloc without conditions.
