KUDAT: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor inspected the construction of 20 stilt-type Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) units being developed in a cluster at Kampung Perpaduan Ria 2 here on Saturday.
Work on the project commenced last August and is scheduled for completion by the end of this year at an estimated cost of RM95,000 per unit.
Accompanying Hajiji were Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, State Rural Development Minister Datuk Rubin Balang, State Assistant Finance Minister and Tanjong Kapor Assemblyman Datuk Ben Chong, alongside senior government officials.
The Rumah Mesra SMJ initiative is a Sabah state government programme designed to assist low-income earners, the impoverished, owners of dilapidated dwellings, and the landless or homeless across all 73 state constituencies, subject to eligibility criteria.
For 2026, the State Government raised the allocation to 50 units per constituency from 40 previously, including an additional quota of 10 units earmarked specifically for married youths aged 40 and below who do not yet own a home.
