Rural road funding rises to RM2.3 billion

THE government is allocating RM3.3 billion for rural basic infrastructure projects under Budget 2027, covering road construction, village street lighting, community facilities and the supply of clean water and electricity.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said rural road funding has been raised to RM2.3 billion, up from RM1.3 billion in 2022.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) will also install solar street lights in villages and rooftop solar panels at welfare homes and houses of worship, and upgrade electricity supply at tahfiz schools, pondok institutions and Orang Asli settlements, he said.

“To expand clean water access nationwide, RM2.5 billion is allocated through the National Non-Revenue Water programme, targeting the replacement of 1,900 kilometres of ageing critical pipes,” he said.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) will further strengthen internet connectivity with a RM5 billion investment.

WiFi coverage now spans all public university campuses, he said, while 4G reaches all Felda settlements.
