A magnitude 5.7 earthquake rattled a rural area of Nevada on Monday evening, causing widespread shaking and some localized damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported the temblor struck just before 6:30 p.m., centered 12.9 miles (20.7 kilometers) east of Silver Springs at a depth of 3.1 miles (5 kilometers).
In the town of Fallon, video footage captured the immediate aftermath, showing shattered glass and groceries strewn across a local store's aisles.
The USGS confirmed reports from nearby communities of strong to very strong shaking, resulting in light to moderate damage.
Trina Enloe, present in Fallon during the quake, described hearing "the rumbling just coming before it even got to us."
She noted the shaking lasted about a minute, toppling some cast iron candle holders, though her home sustained no cracks or significant damage.
