The Russian Energy Ministry has acknowledged fuel supply problems following Ukrainian attacks on the country's energy infrastructure.

Companies in the fuel and energy sector have recently faced a rise in hostile air attacks, "leading to temporary difficulties with fuel supplies in a number of southern regions," the ministry said on Monday in a statement on Telegram.

The ministry said it had set up a task force with energy companies to help keep fuel supplies stable across the country.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak had already acknowledged at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum at the weekend that Russia was producing less oil than planned.

He blamed the lower output on unscheduled repairs, but did not give further details.

Authorities installed by Moscow on the illegally annexed Black Sea peninsula of Crimea and in the also annexed Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine had previously restricted the distribution of petrol.

The Russian government has also banned kerosene exports for the first time, initially until the end of November.

Ukraine has been striking Russian oil facilities with drones for months as it tries to disrupt fuel supplies to the Russian army and reduce the energy revenues Moscow uses to finance its war.

Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than four years ago on the orders of President Vladimir Putin.
