Canada opened their World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, and while the result may have been frustrating, the finish gave the home crowd a moment to remember.
Jovo Lukic put Bosnia and Herzegovina ahead in the 20th minute, leaving Canada chasing the game for most of the afternoon at Toronto Stadium. Jesse Marsch’s side pressed and pushed, but for a long time they struggled to turn pressure into the goal they needed.
That changed late on when Cyle Larin came off the bench and equalised, sparking a huge reaction from the stands, which included Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds.
Ryan Reynolds seen celebrating Cyle Larin’s historic Canada equaliser

The broadcast spotted Reynolds celebrating after Larin’s goal, with the Canadian actor sharing a high five with an unknown Canada supporter in the stands.
It was a fitting reaction from someone who has become one of soccer’s most recognisable celebrity figures.
Reynolds is co-owner of Wrexham AFC alongside Rob McElhenney, with their takeover helping turn the Welsh club into a global story through Welcome to Wrexham and a run of promotions.
His Canada celebration also came after a goal with extra meaning. Larin entered the pitch in the 76th minute and scored in the 78th minute, giving Canada their first tournament point and first men’s World Cup goal on home soil.
It was also only Canada’s third goal in men’s World Cup history, following Alphonso Davies’ strike and a Morocco own goal in 2022.
Reynolds was filmed displaying his pure supporter instinct, which is completely understandable as Canada experienced a historic moment.
