A doctor at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore had the shock of his life recently after finding a whole octopus stuck in his patient’s throat.

The patient, a Singaporean man, has had trouble swallowing and throat discomfort prior to going to the hospital and realised something was amiss after he started vomiting following a meal that included the octopus.

As reported by the New York Post, doctors conducted a CT scan on the patient and found a super-dense mass in the man’s oesophagus.

Afterwards, the patient undergoes an oesophagogastroduodenoscopy, or a gastrointestinal examination involving a small, flexible tube with a camera, which revealed the tentacled octopus being lodged 2 inches from the oesophagus-stomach border.

Initial attempts to push or extract the interloper were unsuccessful, which prompted medics to navigate the endoscope past the octopus into the stomach and retroflexed it. Forceps were then used to grasp the critter’s head and remove it from the patient.

Thankfully, the Singaporean patient recovered well following surgery and was discharged after two days.
