NINETEEN members of the Kudat division of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) have resigned from the party with immediate effect, a move that has effectively dissolved the division’s leadership committee amid growing dissatisfaction over recent disciplinary actions within the party.
The resignations were announced by Deputy State Liaison Chairman of Bersatu Sabah and head of the Kudat division Muhammad Affan Jumahat who said the decision was made after careful consideration of developments within the party.
“We made the decision because we are uncomfortable with the hasty dismissal of many elected representatives and division chiefs,” he said in a statement issued on Monday.
He added that the group also rejected actions which they believe contradicted a decision taken by the party’s Supreme Leadership Council earlier this year.
“We also reject any efforts that violate the decision of the Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) on 12 January to postpone disciplinary action against members over statements concerning Bersatu’s founding president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, made before that date,” he said.
Muhammad Affan explained that the departure of the 19 members automatically dissolves the Kudat division’s committee structure.
The resignations were formally conveyed in a letter dated 3 March addressed to the party’s Secretary-General, Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Among those who stepped down are the division’s Deputy Permanent Chairman Sainol Tanjilul, Deputy Division Chief Zulkifli Nordin, Srikandi Chief Rainah Sakout, Secretary Suaimi Suliman, Treasurer Kalintong Tandok and Information Chief Rojinal Mandawai, along with 11 other committee members. - March 9, 2026
