Kota Kinabalu: Sabah DAP will hold its Supreme Council meeting this weekend to finalise preparations for the coming state election.
“We will make several decisions and preparations,” said Sabah DAP Chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe when met on the sidelines following dissolution of the state assembly by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Phoong asked for patience from the media regarding outstanding questions, promising to call a media conference soon to address all arising issues.
Reiterating DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke’s earlier statement, Phoong said Sabah DAP is eyeing six to eight seats in the coming election, including those they currently hold.
“For Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH), we will discuss later,” he said, adding that he had spoken with Sabah PH Chairman Datuk Ewon Benedick.
“We have discussed and hopefully we will have a meeting later,” he said.
On which party logo will be used in the state election, Phoong said this will be decided during the coming committee meeting, after which the media will be informed.
He called on Sabahans to celebrate democracy together as the State prepares for the coming polls.
“Today is a democratic process in line with our country’s constitution.
“Let us all, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion and background, celebrate democracy together because this is a very important process for all citizens to make their choice. This is the beauty of our democratic process and institutions.
“Whatever choice we make later is a victory for all citizens. It is a victory for our process and institutions and we wish and pray for the best for the future of our State,” he said.
For the record, DAP contested seven seats and won six in the 16th state election, namely Sri Tanjong, Elopura, Tanjong Papat, Kapayan, Luyang and Likas.
However, the party lost two of these seats when the representatives from Elopura and Sri Tanjong left DAP and joined Parti Warisan in 2022.
