'Sabah Day, National Day reminders to preserve unity, sovereignty'

Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans have been urged to safeguard the State's longstanding peace, unity, and harmony by rejecting divisive politics, personal interests, and political vengeance.

Head of State Tun Musa Aman said Aug 31 holds special significance as the people celebrate both National Day and Sabah Day, reflecting on the historical journey of their forefathers in shaping the State's place within Malaysia.

He warned that peace and sovereignty are fragile and must never be taken for granted, especially amid rising global uncertainties and devastating conflicts abroad.

Highlighting the State’s multi-ethnic and multi-religious fabric, the Governor stressed that differences in political opinion must never descend into hatred, hostility, or attempts to turn citizens against one another.

He also cautioned the public, especially the younger generation, to remain vigilant against social media misinformation, slander, and content engineered to incite resentment.

On State development, Musa emphasised that the well-being of the people must remain the core focus, supported by political stability to maintain investor confidence and stimulate economic growth.

He paid tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes and extended appreciation to security forces who continue to safeguard the country's borders, territorial integrity, and sovereignty.

Musa called on all Malaysians to renew their commitment to working together across race, religion, and political affiliation to ensure a stronger, more prosperous future for Sabah and Malaysia.
