KOTA KINABALU: Sabah FC are on the verge of ending their long trophy drought after reaching the 2026 MFL Challenge Cup final, with the decisive second leg set for this Sunday (April 19) at Stadium Likas.

The first leg ended 1-1 in Penang, giving Sabah the advantage of playing the return leg at home.

Sabah Youth and Sports Development Minister Datuk Hj Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said the final presents a crucial opportunity to end the state’s long wait for silverware.

“We hope Sabah can win this MFL Challenge Cup. If we succeed, it will end our long drought without a trophy in Malaysian football,” he said.

To boost support, the state government will distribute 2,000 free tickets on a first-come, first-served basis.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is expected to attend, and the state has also pledged a bonus for the team if they emerge champions.
