Kota Kinabalu: Sabahan, Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, who is currently serving as Penang Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Director has been appointed as the new Sabah MACC Director, with effect from Aug 15.

MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said Mohd Fuad’s appointment is expected to drive the anti-corruption agenda more aggressively and strategically in Sabah.

The handover ceremony was held at the Federal Government Administrative Complex, here, Wednesday and witnessed by Ahmad Khusairi.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ahmad Khusairi said MACC’s role extends beyond fighting corruption to helping the government prevent long-term financial leakages.

He noted that Sabah’s anti-leakage initiatives would have lasting positive impacts on all stakeholders.

“Our direction in this State is not only to prevent corruption, but we must also think about how to help the State Government curb leakages so that the impact of these efforts is long-lasting,” Ahmad Khusairi said.

He praised outgoing director Karunanithy for building public confidence in MACC and successfully leading major operations that demonstrated the agency’s commitment to combating corruption and abuse of power in Sabah.

In his farewell remarks, Karunanithy credited Sabah MACC’s operational and prevention successes to strategic cooperation between Federal and State departments, as well as media partners.

He thanked Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong for their consistent support for MACC initiatives.

The ceremony was also attended by Sabah Federal Secretary Datuk Seri Rosli Isa, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun and Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah.
